Tokaj as a region produces wines with the highest alcohol content and wines that have the greatest
sweetness level and acidity level in the country. The secret of Tokaj wines is determined by the
combination of several different factors. Equal consideration is given to the climate, the location and
the soil structure.\u00a0
A very particular, a long, often very dry autumn that helps to develop a botrytis (noble rot) driven
sugar concentration and raisin-like berry formation (aszusodas).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Tokaj Region has typically a warm summer, long and sunny and also humid autumn and cold
winter. The long sunny and humid autumn is ideal for the formation of botrytis (noble rot). The Tokaj
Wine Region is located on volcanic slopes that consist of rhyolite and andesite and the topsoil is
forest loam. The top soil is often based on clay and in many places rocky therefore very difficult to
cultivate. The slopes of Tokaj Kopasz-Hegy has loess as top soil.\u00a0<\/p>

The Tokaj Wine Region is Hungary\u2019s most acknowledged, world famous wine region thanks to the

\n\t\t\t\t\t\tA tiny, 1 km wide strip of land \u201ccorridor\u201d that is located between the brook called Tolcsva and the\nhill called Zsadany-Hegy (today part of S\u00e1razsadany). The place was first mentioned in 1336.\u00a0 The\nRiver Bodrog runs at the bottom of the corridor. The newer name of the hill is Rudnok. Mainly\nbecause of the proximity of the river this area is an exceptionally favorable environment for rich\nAszu production. This area was already classified as a first class grape growing area in the 1700s.\nThe soil is andesite tufa with black top soil on top of it.\nWe managed to acquire this area after 9 years of trying to purchase it. \n\t\t\t\t\t\tThe most renowned vineyard of S\u00e1rospatak. Its name Kir\u00e1lyhegy was given to it after the royal\nmansion that is located at the foot of the hill. It was the favorite hiking place of Princess Zsuzsanna\nLor\u00e1ntffy, wife of Gy\u00f6rgy R\u00e1k\u00f3czi, the Duke of Transylvania. The area was owned by the Princess\nand donated to the Calvinist Liceum of S\u00e1rospatak in 1640. The area changed ownership over the\ncenturies but remained in the hands of several protestant families.\u00a0\nThe Lor\u00e1ntffy-pihen\u0151hely (a lookout point) facing the River Bodrog is our winemaker\u2019s favorite\nplace and he hopes to restore the place to its original plight. \n\t\t\t\t\t\tThe pearl jam of our winery. We can still find the castle of baron Waldblatt at the top of the hill. It\nis a historical area with the castle. This is the location of our winery with the most mature, some 50\nyears old vines in the vineyard of Portius that were well maintained. A major hail storm destroyed\nmost of the vines. \n\t\t\t\t\t\tMegyer is the name of a hill in the city of Sarospatak. First mentioned in a book in 1324. The name\nof the place reflects the name of the Megyer Hungarian tribe that arrived and stayed in the area.\nThis is a set of vineyards that were previously owned by owners such as The Palos order of the\ncatholic church in the 14-15th centuries and by the Per\u00e9nyi family in the 16th century. Zsuzsanna\nLor\u00e1ntffy was also one of the owners in the 17th century. This area was also part of the Austrian\nEmperor\u2019s treasury during the reign of Joseph the 2nd. We can also mention noble families in the\n\n19th century such as the\u00a0 Breczenheim or Windischgr\u00e4tz families. \n\t\t\t\t\t\tFeketehegy (Blackhill) is located on the altitude of 370 m in the city of S\u00e1toralja\u00fajhely. This\nvineyard is our winery\u2019s latest acquisition. This area was owned by Princess Zsuzsanna Lor\u00e1ntffy in\nthe 17th century.\u00a0 (She built a presshouse in the area). The location was well tested in the past. As\nour new acquisition, based on our research we have high hopes to make bone dry wines from our\nfirst harvest. We believe that this area has huge potential. The soil is a mixture of clay and rhyolite\ntufa. \n\t\t\t\t\t\tR\u00e1ny is located in\u00a0 V\u00e1mos\u00fajfalu and has been a reliable source of distinguished grapes since the\n\u00c1rp\u00e1d era (between 896 and 1301). It is one of the oldest slopes of the Tokaj wine region. The\nplace was mentioned in a written document only in 1248 in connection with the castle and its\nterritories in S\u00e1rospatak. The original name of the place was Szenny\u0151halma.
